Change of surname to Collins from Spittal
I have recently re married and so I had better mention that because I am in the process of changing all my accounts to my new name at the moment, you may find me listed as either Cherry Spittal or Cherry Collins which is my new name. In the current Women's Salon I am listed as "Cherry Spittal" Sorry about the confusion!
Counihan Gallery - Women's Exhibition 2009
On February 19th 2009 Moreland opened it's annual Women's Salon with 65 women artists
taking part. The exhibition opening went well. This exhibition has been running for about 20 years and I was involved in the committee that was formed to set it up years ago.
I have exhibited and sold paintings, puppets and glass work in that exhibition over the years.
This year I put a seascape in the exhibition. I will post a photo of this painting on here soon.
It is for sale. It is an acrylic painting on canvas. It is of a scene at Blairgowrie back beach.
I have a passion for painting and try to get around to it at least once a week. The best time
to be had for me, is painting outside on location...I love that!.....but if I don't get the chance,
then I take photos and download them onto my computer and paint at home.
It is not quite as exciting, painting from home and I prefer being outside on location.
The work is always fresher and more immediate when you paint outside amongst the elements.
Sometimes the sun shines or it rains, and the wind blows around you. Sometimes it is hot and sometimes you freeze! You get visitors and spectators and it is always entertaining. I usually spend about one and a half to two hours on each painting. That doesn't seem to vary much whether I paint outside or at home.
Sunsets and sunrises are tricky, and challenging because the light changes so quickly that is it hard to capture!
....but it is fun trying!!!!! I love painting shadows and water and reflections!
The overall exhibition looked quite good and I would say there was some work there better than mine and some worse...if you sum up an exhibition like that...
....but all the entrants had put their heart and sole into their art and it was a good thing to see it all come together and we all had a good time at the opening.
It was lovely also to see so many people that I knew.
The exhibition runs until March 15th and I encourage you all to go along.
The address is:
Counihan Gallery
